New teaching Staff advised to promote high-quality teaching and research
The Deputy Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration, Mrs. Anny Katabaazi-Bwengye has asked new staff at Kabale University to appreciate the culture of the University and also work hard to create a strong brand for the institution. This was during the opening of the orientation of new staff held at Kinkungiri hill in Kabale Municipality. The week-long orientation started with the senior staff on Friday 13th of January 2023 and will go on until the 20th of January 2023.
While opening the two-day academic staff workshop to orient the new academic staff in the KABSOM Hall at the Kikungiri Campus, Mrs. Anny Katabaazi-Bwengye tasked the new staff to work hard on research and publications to grow in their career and promotions in the teaching ranks. She also encouraged members to always take annual leaves after long periods of work to reflect on their personal and professional growth. She welcomed the staff to Kabale University and made a presentation about the University’s governance and management structure.
The Kabale University Director of Research and publication, Prof. Natal Ayiga cautioned the staff not to publish their research articles in predatory journals but to choose respectable journals to publish their work. He highlighted research as one of the areas of the threefold University mandate. This would promote citations and the university ranking. He also appealed to staff to engage in excellent, high quality and innovative research. He asked the lecturers to desist from plagiarism which would affect their career growth.
Presenting at the same orientation workshop, Mr. Godfrey Sempungu the University’s Senior Branding and Communication officer asked the new members to treat customer care as everyone’s business and not just any department’s job. He reminded the lecturers that they were the core personnel entrusted with the lives of the students whom they should nurture into responsible professionals. “If we could all effectively teach, mentor and appreciate the students to satisfaction, then they would recommend other people to study at Kabale University without wasting our resources on advertising”, he added. He presented several key issues on how staff would profile themselves and stand out as a brand within their faculties and in the university at large.
The University Assistant Director of Human Resources, Mr. Emmanuel Arinaitwe appealed to members to study the policy manuals that guide their day-to-day operations at work. He informed members that the University management values output-based performance. He also encouraged members to embrace technology and make learning convenient for learners who are the primary clients.
The two-day workshop is organized by the Directorate of Human Resources to orient all new teaching staff recruited in the year 2022.
