Korean Embassy Officials Visit Kabale University

Kabale University today, 18th November 2020, received two visitors from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea.  These were Ms. Jungok Shin (2nd Secretary, Cultural Affairs), and Ms. Woo Hanhee (Administrative Officer).

The visitors first met with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof, Joy C. Kwesiga, and the Director of the Institute of Language Studies, The Rev. Prof. Manuel J.K. Muranga for a brief introductory session.  Later they were joined by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Prof. Benon C. Basheka, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Administration), Mrs. Anny Katabaazi-Bwengye.

This visit is a follow up on the previous visit by H.E.  Byung Kyoo Ha, the Korean Ambassador in Uganda, on 11th February 2020.

Together, the team explored possible areas of cooperation between Kabale University and the Government of Korea.  In particular, the possibility of Kabale University establishing a Language Centre to teach the Korean Language and related strategies regarding cultural and academic exchange were discussed, for staff and students of the two countries.

The Rev. Prof. Manuel J.K. Muranga

There was an exchange of information about the systems of education of the two countries, especially at the university level.  It was noted that the work ethics of the Korean people and their economic, scientific and technological advancement would be something that Kabale University community and Ugandans at large could learn from while realizing that Korean visitors would also pick useful lessons from Uganda.

This being an exploratory visit, the teams agreed to follow up the visit with further talks and discussions.

Mrs. Anny Katabaazi-Bwengye Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Administration)

The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of Kabale University, expressed appreciation to the Embassy Officials and assured them of the commitment of the University to moving this a step further.  She re-affirmed that the University looked forward to developing long-lasting relationships.
