Recognition: On Tuesday, 5th May 2020, ISACA Global officially recognized Kabale University ISACA Student Group (ISGKAB) as one of students’ organizations in the global community of the ISACA Student Groups. In a message from ISACA global through their representative, Dana Becker (who works as a Membership Specialist), congratulated Kabale University for having taken their time and worked hard to establish ISACA Student Group (ISG). The message included the (ISG) Student Group logo and a “Certificate of Recognition” which recognizes ISGKAB for its participation in this ISACA program and for the group’s commitment to raising awareness throughout the industry.

About ISGKAB: The journey to achieve this recognition started in August 2019 when students and lecturers from the Faculty of Computing, Library and Information Science organized and initiated a student group known as ISACA Student Group of Kabale University (ISGKAB). The ISGKAB is a student group whose purpose is student empowerment, to raise awareness of ISACA, and expand recognition of the IT Audit and Assurance, Security and IT Governance disciplines, by extending education beyond the classroom on standards, practices and certification. ISGKAB is being managed by students, under the leadership of Mr. Sibobugingo Benson (The President) from Information Technology and Computer Science under my guidance as an Academic Advocate/Faculty Advisor (Mr. Nkamwesiga Nicholas, CISA, CISM). The group is affiliated to Kabale University, ISACA Kampala Chapter and ISACA International.

This recognition makes ISGKAB the 1st ISACA Student Group in Uganda and the 7th in Africa following other six student groups from the Federal University of Technology (Nigeria), FP Sultan Moulay Slimane (Morocco), ISET Rades (Tunisia), Strathmore University (Kenya), Tshwane University of Technology (South Africa) and Vaal University of Technology – VUT (South Africa).

As part of the recognition ISGKAB will listed among the global student groups via the link: https://www.isaca.org/membership/student-membership/student-groups/recognized-student-groups.

As a recognized student group, ISGKAB and its affiliates are allowed to participate in educational seminars, workshops, community outreach programs and any other activities organized ISGKAB, ISACA Kampala Chapter and ISACA International.

About ISACA: ISACA is an international professional association focused on IT governance. It was previously known as the Information Systems Audit and Control Association and ISACA now goes by its acronym only. ISACA originated in the United States in 1967 when a group of individuals working on auditing controls in computer systems started to become increasingly critical of the operations of their organizations. They identified a need for a centralized source of information and guidance in the field. In 1976 the association formed an education foundation to undertake large-scale research efforts to expand the knowledge of and value accorded to the fields of governance and control of technology. The association became the Information Systems Audit and Control Association in 1994.

For more than 50 years, ISACA (www.isaca.org) has advanced the best in technology. ISACA equips individuals with knowledge, credentials, education and community to progress their careers and transform their organizations. Through its solutions, ISACA enables enterprises to train and build quality teams. ISACA currently serves more than 145,000 constituents (members and professionals holding ISACA certifications) in more than 180 countries. The job titles of members are such as IS auditor, consultant, educator, IS security professional, regulator, chief information officer, chief information security officer and internal auditor. They work in nearly all industry categories. There is a network of ISACA chapters with more than 220 chapters established in over 188 countries. Chapters provide education, resource sharing, advocacy, networking and other benefits.

Therefore, ISACA is an independent, nonprofit, global association that engages in the development, adoption and use of globally accepted, industry-leading knowledge and practices for information systems. ISACA Kampala Chapter is a local/national ISACA Chapter in Uganda. The chapter sponsors local educational seminars and workshops. They promote and elevate the visibility of the IS audit, control and security profession throughout the Kampala and surrounding areas in Uganda. ISGKAB will be utilizing the industrial expertise of ISACA Kampala Chapter members in the attempt to realize the objectives of the ISGKAB.
