Kabale University welcomes New Staff Members through Comprehensive Induction Training
We are delighted to have inducted several new staff members today, both in the academic and administrative categories. Various speakers welcomed the staff to Kabale University and facilitated discussions on different thematic areas. As a result of the training that was organized by the Human Resources Directorate, several expectations were raised at the beginning of the training. The purpose of such staff induction programs is to assist new employees in integrating smoothly into Kabale University.
The day-long training was meant to provide essential information about the institution’s culture, values, and expectations, core values, and to enable the new staff to acclimate efficiently to the new university.
Anny Katabaazi Bwengye (Mrs), Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Finance and Administration, opened the training. In her opening remarks, she encouraged the news staff to demonstrate professionalism in their work.
In addition to the professional communication with KAB, which was facilitated by Godfrey Sempungu, the training covered other key areas. Among other things, he discussed university branding and brand assets with the members. His remarks emphasized the uniqueness of the KAB brand as a university without walls. In his remarks, Mr. Sempungu emphasized that KAB is one of the regional centers of excellence in the great lakes region.
To participants in the training, the Deputy Vice chancellor of Finance and Administration Anny Katabaazi Bwengye (mrs) elaborated on the importance of ethical conduct and etiquette. In addition, she facilitated the new staff on confidentiality, proper handling of information, and the protection of vital office information. She emphasized the importance of staff being good stewards of their responsibilities. A presentation was also made by Kabale University Librarian Dr Bernard Bazirake on the role that the library plays in promoting academic excellence. With the assistance of Insingoma Fenekansi, they discussed the role of digital repositories and other resources in the acquisition of knowledge.
The Chief of the Graduate Directorate, Prof. Sabiti Makara, presented to the members an overview of the research process at Kabale University. He highlighted the progress the directorate has made and emphasized the importance of staff support in ensuring stakeholders enjoy their time at Kabale University. It was followed by a presentation by Ms Peace Tindyebwa, the Deputy University Secretary. During her presentation, she discussed the university culture, the growth and transformation of the university, and some key policy issues. In addition to his presentation, the Chief of Human Resources Samson Olum explained the terms and conditions of service at Kabale University. In his presentation, he highlighted some of the key governance and policy issues that new staff should be aware of.
Dr Julius Arinaitwe, Chief for Research and Grants, also addressed the participants regarding the university’s research. During his presentation, he referred to the progress that has been made by the university in terms of partnerships and grants. In addition, he invited the new members to take part in the research efforts. In addition, Micheal Okopa presented to the members of the quality assurance committee the key quality assurance parameters that should be considered in the university. In addition, Mrs. Jackie Masamba presented to the members the key considerations in the area of performance management, performance agreements, and appraisals.
On behalf of the University Secretary, the Chief of Human Resources closed the training. In his remarks, he encouraged the new employees to enjoy Kabale University and to make a positive contribution to the institution.
