Kabale University Medical Students’ Association wins Bronze in National Medical Quiz 2024
The Kabale University Medical Students’ Association finished third in the National Medical Quiz 2024, which was held at Makerere University, demonstrating their remarkable medical knowledge and skills. The event, hosted and organized by the Makerere Medical University Students’ Association (MUMSA), featured intense competition among medical students from several institutions nationwide. The quiz which took place on February 24th and 25th, 2024, brought together bright minds from medical colleges/schools from nine universities across the nation. Among the strong competitors, Kabale University Medical Students’ Association emerged as the second runner-up, winning a well-deserved bronze medal with Makerere University and Gulu University in the first position and second positions respectively.
The competition’s main theme, “Uniting Across Disciplines to Embrace a Tech-Enabled Future in Healthcare,” highlighted the need for interdisciplinary collaboration in creating healthcare solutions. The event, hosted at Makerere University’s famed CTF-2 Auditorium, allowed students to demonstrate their medical expertise and innovative thinking skills.
According to Ampaire Daphine, a fifth-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, it was during the quiz competition that she realized KAB is consistently good at clinical, biochemistry, and general knowledge. “For all three times I have participated in these quizzes, we have been good in these areas. We learned to operate as a group and make swift judgments in such a little period. “Added Daphine.
She suggests that an independent committee from the Uganda Medical Association should be responsible for setting the questions, providing moderators, and appointing judges for the quiz since the hosting students Association only handle the welfare of the participants.
The quiz got support and recognition from several organizations, including Seed Global Health, USAID, Ajanta Pharma, BBS Television, Obulamu? and UNICEF’s uReport. The significant contributions from these sponsors highlighted the importance of promoting academic excellence and innovation in the medical community. The Kabale University Medical Students’ Association’s amazing performance illustrates not only their commitment to academic excellence but also the great quality of medical education at Kabale University. Their win is as an inspiration to aspiring medical professionals and emphasizes the significance of ongoing learning and collaboration in the healthcare industry.
The quiz covered a wide range of topics and categories, including Anatomy, Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapeutics, Logic, General Knowledge, Microbiology, Pathology, Physiology, Surgery, Anesthesia and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pediatrics.
As the National Medical Quiz 2024 concludes, knowledge-sharing, and innovation developed throughout the competition will certainly resonate throughout the medical community for years to come.
