Kabale University Engineering Students Join Pre-World Engineers Day Celebrations at Kyambogo University

Engineering students from Kabale University actively participated in the Pre-World Engineers Day Celebrations at Kyambogo University. The event, which features Engineer Andrew Muhwezi, President of the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE), as the Chief Guest, focuses on the crucial theme of “Engineering Solutions for a Sustainable World.”

To raise awareness of the value of engineering and technology among the general public and to recognize the accomplishments of engineers worldwide, the worldwide celebration was renamed World Engineering Day in collaboration with UNESCO and WFEO.

During his address, Engineer Muhwezi emphasized the importance of considering all three pillars of sustainability: environment, economy, and society. He urged participants to direct their research and innovation efforts toward tackling real-world issues facing Uganda.

“We need young minds like yours to focus on developing solutions for Ugandan problems,” Engineer Muhwezi stated. He encouraged the students to identify and address challenges within the designated sustainability areas, emphasizing the opportunity to make a tangible impact on their nation.

 In attendance was also Eng. Vicent Ochwo a past president of IUPE, who talked about the importance of Engineering in Achieving a Sustainable Future. He implored the students present to work towards applying of scientific knowledge and technical skills in contributing to sustainable technologies and practices.

As the event ended, the students had a one-on-one interaction with Engineer Henry Mpuuga a Key point member of Research and Innovation at UIPE, and also a mentor for Africa Tech Challenge season 7.

Kabale University actively encourages student participation in such events inorder to foster collaboration, sahre knowledge, and a sense of professional identity within the engineering community. This participation also allows students to engage with industry leaders gaining valuable insights and inspiration for their academic pursuits and future careers.

The Pre-World Engineers Day Celebrations offered a platform for aspiring engineers to explore how their skills and knowledge can contribute to building a more sustainable future for Uganda and the world.
