Kabale University Inspires Kigezi High School Students on Career Opportunities

Kabale University remains committed to shaping the future of young minds through career guidance and academic empowerment. On Saturday, 22nd March 2025, the university participated in Career Day at Kigezi High School, engaging students in discussions on career pathways, university programs, and essential workplace skills.

The event, themed “Career Choices and the Future Job Market” and “Skills for Success in Different Careers”, provided students with valuable insights into making informed academic and professional decisions.

The Deputy Head Teacher in charge of Academics and Co-Curricular Activities welcomed the Kabale University team and expressed gratitude for the university’s continuous support of the school’s academic and developmental projects. He emphasized the importance of career guidance in helping students make the right choices as they progress in their academic journey and professional aspirations.

Exploring Career Possibilities at Kabale University

Kabale University introduced students to a wide range of market-driven programs designed to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed for success in today’s dynamic job market. The programs included:

✅ Medicine – with specializations such as Anatomy, Anesthesia, Pediatrics, General Surgery, and Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN).
✅ Engineering and Technology – featuring disciplines like Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Applied Design & Fine Art.
✅ Agriculture – emphasizing its role as the backbone of the economy, with specializations in Environmental Science, Agricultural Sciences, and Land Use Management.
✅ Hospitality and Tourism – open to both science and arts students, with a focus on Catering, Hospitality Management, and Tourism Industry Trends.
✅ Performing & Creative Arts – highlighting the economic potential of the creative industry and how students can build sustainable careers in the arts.
✅ Mass Communication – offering career paths in Journalism, Public Relations, News Anchoring, and Media Production.
✅ Business & Finance – covering areas such as Accounting, Finance, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship.
✅ Sciences – including Industrial Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Applied Physics.
✅ Social Sciences – featuring courses such as Social Work and Social Administration, Counseling Psychology, and Public Administration.
✅ Law – preparing students for careers in legal practice, human rights advocacy, and governance.

Students showed immense interest in engineering, medical, and law programs, leading to high turnouts in related breakout sessions.

 

Beyond academic excellence, Nicole Harriet Mwesigwa, the university’s Marketing and Branding Officer, delivered an insightful presentation on the significance of soft skills in today’s workplace.
