JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR/ QUALITY ASSURANCE

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • To ensure quality assurance standards and accreditation of programs for the products of the University in line with national, regional and international criteria.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops or reviews the quality assurance framework, plans, tools and strategies for approval by Council or other relevant decision-making organ of the University.
  • Oversees the University’s response to and implementation of Council policies and decisions, quality standards and any other policy or quality requirements as set by the Sector Ministry, National Council for Higher Education or other relevant quality assurance bodies.
  • Advises on and monitors quality assurance requirements for teaching, learning, research and community outreach programs.
  • Provides technical and professional support to the various academic and administrative units in the implementation or enhancement of quality assurance systems within the University.
  • Supervises the Quality Assurance teams in their undertakings and oversees the quality assurance and quality enhancement activities of the University.
  • Plans, implements and continually improves the quality management systems of the University in conformity with universally acceptable standards.
  • Evaluates quality assurance or inspection reports from the various units of the University.
  • Oversees the provision of support to University units in eliminating impediments to implementation of quality programs in their internal operations.
  • Coordinates the conduct of quality management system audits and conformity assessments by External Advisors, Assessors and auditing, certification, accreditation or pre-qualification bodies.
  • Oversees and participates in the sensitisation, education and training of both staff and other relevant Stakeholders in Quality Management Systems.
  • Prepares and submits to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (AA) periodic reports on quality assurance audits in accordance with the University quality assurance policies.
  • Communicates quality management targets, shortfalls, remedial measures and improved processes and procedures.
  • Performs any other duty that may be assigned to him by the supervisor.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

  • Should have an earned Ph.D. from a recognized institution, with excellent record of teaching, research, administration, and community service.
  • Should have ten (10) years of proven experience of management in a recognized institution of higher learning, broad knowledge of academic systems and should be at the rank of at least Associate Professor.
  • Should have a broad knowledge of the national, regional and international standards, norms and practices as they relate to quality assurance standards of education in institutions of higher learning.
  • ISO certification as a qualified Auditor or Assessor is an added advantage.
  • Should have experience in quality rating and assessment.
  • Should be proficient in the use of information technology.
  • Should have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Should have knowledge of the law and national, regional and international standards and practices of quality assurance governing Universities.
  • Should have a high level of demonstrated personal integrity.

JOB TITLE:  ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR- RELIGIOUS STUDIES

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • To provide academic leadership and knowledge in the relevant discipline and lead the development and implementation of research and publications.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

  • Should have an earned Ph.D. in the relevant discipline from a recognized institution of higher learning
  • Should have conducted research as a Senior Lecturer in the relevant discipline, published and had at least five (5) years of teaching in a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • Should have demonstrated academic excellence and had Three (3) new publications in area of specialization since promotion to the track of Senior Lecturer.
  • Should have supervised at least three (3) graduate students to completion since last promotion.
  • Should have a good track record of service to the public

JOB TITLE:  SENIOR RESEARCH GRANTS ADMINISTRATOR

Responsible for:  Research Grants Administrator

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • To supervise the administration of research grants.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be one of the informed points of contact for the University staff on competitive and contract grant related matters.
  • Liaise and work with other members of the Research and Publications Directorate and entire University to maintain currency of relevant schemes and proactively support researchers to identify funding opportunities.
  • Keep abreast of the priorities and focus of granting bodies and the details of eligibility requirements and to pro -actively provide timely notification to ensure compliance with funding bodies.
  • Work with the Grants Officer and Director to maintain and develop the research management database for all research grant, contract and fellowship applications and offers for research funding, including working with technical support staff and end users.
  • Assist in coordinating and supporting the research grant and contract research development and submission processes including access and input from relevant internal supports as required (other professional services e.g. finance, data services) to the final sign off from the Director or any other designated officer and timely submission.
  • Provide team support on a range of research development activities as required particularly during high volume and critical work periods particularly during grant funding rounds, the provision of urgent information requests, feedback and review of documents originating from Research Development.
  • Participate in training workshops and seminars on upcoming granting opportunities hosted by granting councils, NGO’s and universities as required and share this information with Research Development and researchers
  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations and policies and procedures for relevant agreements and advise staff/management on compliance issues;
  • Assist with assessment of Faculty/Departmental or recipient’s organizational capacity, including but not limited to the technical and financial capacity, internal controls, risk analysis and establish risk mitigation plans.
  • Provide support for proposal application/development, inclusive of completing organizational assessment and organizational certification and assurances.
  • Assist with preparation for external audits, and assist in addressing internal and/or external audit queries;
  • Maintain key related documentation in the files for Grants/Contracts, MOUs, Teaming Agreements, Sub Awards, and other relevant documents;
  • Monitor and ensure timely notification is provided on upcoming report requirements for grants, fellowships and contracts. Provide support in maintaining and developing relevant web pages
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

  • Should have a Master’s degree in Project Planning and Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Social Sciences, Public Administration or Management or Social Sciences, or any other related fields.
  • Should have at least five (5) years of experience in administration three (3) of which should have been in mobilizing or management grant related activities gained from a reputable organization.
  • Should have proven experience in grant proposal writing and management.
  • Should have ability to show initiative, work independently and also ability to work cooperatively with members of the team to accomplish joint tasks and common objectives
  • Should have excellent organizational and time management skills including the ability to manage varied and conflicting demands to meet deadlines.
  • Should demonstrate proficiency in electronic grant management systems
  • Should promote an inclusive and supportive environment that is client focused, responsive and brings out the best in people.
  • Should be able to articulate and realize a shared vision, and foster cooperation, consensus-building, and collaborative decision making within Research Directorate and University.
  • Should be able to recognise the valued contribution of RD staff members and accord credit and value to work undertaken by team members or as a collective.
  • Should have high standard of proficiency in the use of computer software packages and demonstrated aptitude and ability to developing spreadsheets, databases and power point presentations.
  • Should have well-developed communication skills including interpersonal, verbal and written reports
