Hon. Thomas Tayebwa encourages KAB University to enhance stakeholder engagement for improved results

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa paid a courtesy visit to KAB to establish the remarkable progress it has made since it became a public University since under government control in 2016. According to him, his purpose was to dentify the priorities that the government should address to further the institution’s development.  He was accompanied by Hon. Nicholas Kamara and Hon. Elias Rutahiigwa, who serve as Members of Parliament representing Kabale and Rukungiri Municipalities, respectively.

While visiting the University’s main campus on September 22nd, the Deputy Speaker praised the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Joy Kwesiga and KAB management for their committed efforts in advancing the institution towards excellence. He held a meeting with members of the University Council, Management, Faculty Deans and Directors, and the Guild cabinet.

Hon. Tayebwa expressed his gratitude to the university’s founders for establishing an institution that is positively impacting the Kigezi region. “I wish to extend my thanks to the visionaries behind this remarkable establishment, which is delivering high-quality higher education opportunities for the youth of our nation”, he stated.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joy C Kwesiga expressed gratitude for the Deputy Speaker’s visit and assured him of the university’s commitment to providing quality education and conducting valuable research. She acknowledged that prior to government intervention, KAB had encountered numerous challenges, such as insufficient infrastructure and a restricted number of academic programs. Nevertheless, she highlighted significant initiatives and reforms implemented since 2016 that have been instrumental in elevating the institution’s status.

During the tour, Hon. Tayebwa inspected the ongoing construction of new lecture facilities which are intended to accommodate KAB’s expanding student body. He praised management for their progress in construction, emphasizing the importance of conducive teaching and learning environments. He pledged continued support from the government and took the opportunity to announce upcoming government initiatives to further enhance KAB’s educational offerings, including increased funding for infrastructure.
