Kabale University swears in Staff Tribunal

In a ceremony that took place today on the 16th of September 2022 at Kabale University, the eight members of the Kabale University Tribunal members were Sworn in. The occasion was presided over by the University Vice Chancellor, Professor Joy C. Kwesiga. She welcomed the members of the Staff Tribunal and informed them about the latest developments in the University. She noted that we had not had a functional staff Tribunal for years.  There was a need for it to be in place as a fulfillment of one of the governance structures.

The Vice-Chancellor in a special way welcomed Prof. Ben Twinomigisha who is the chairperson of the Kabale University tribunal. She expressed her happiness that he accepted the responsibility to serve. She noted that Prof. Ben Twinomugisha was not new to Kabale University since he had earlier served on the University Governance Council when the University was still private.

Prof. Twinomugisha is a Professor of Law from Makerere University, with a vast experience as Professor, Lawyer, and Academician, he, therefore fits well in the assignment and appointment.

The Vice Chancellor also welcomed the Kabale High Court Registrar, Canon Samuel Twakire who administered the oaths. The Court Registrar was accompanied by the Court Clerk. The Vice Chancellor asked them to always pay courtesy visits to the University in order for them to get more familiar with what happens there.  She asked the Tribunal Members to take their work seriously as it’s a very important duty. She congratulated all Members upon this Appointment and assignment.

The University Secretary Mr. Johnson Baryantuma Munono welcomed all the Tribunal members and he invited the Registrar, His Worship Canon Samuel Twakire to administer the oath to the Members.

The High Court Registrar thanked the University Management for the invitation to participate in this ceremony. He expressed his gratification for the assignment and he quoted article 56 of the Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act that Institutes the University Staff Tribunal which articulates persons eligible to be members of the University Staff Tribunal. Thereafter members of the University Staff Tribunal took the Oath of Allegiance and Secrecy

The term of Office for each member of the University Staff Tribunal will be four years and once they serve well, they are eligible for re-appointment for another term of office.

During the same occasion, Prof. Ben K. Twinomugisha donated a consignment of textbooks of law he has authored, they were received by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Joy Kwesiga together with the University Librarian Dr. Bernard Bazirake.
