Kabale University Wins 2025 Africa Medical Schools Quiz Championship – A Third Consecutive Continental Triumph

Kabale University has once again proven its academic dominance on the African stage after the Kabale University Medical Students’ Association (KUMSA) emerged champions of the 2025 FAMSA Africa Inter-MSA Medical Quiz. This marks an extraordinary third consecutive continental victory, cementing Kabale University’s reputation as one of Africa’s most competitive and rapidly rising institutions in medical education.
The prestigious competition, organized by the Federation of African Medical Students’ Associations (FAMSA) in partnership with Lecturio International, took place between 21st October and 8th November 2025, bringing together 40 medical schools from across Africa. The quiz is recognized as one of the continent’s leading platforms for testing medical students’ clinical reasoning, scientific knowledge and problem-solving capabilities.
Representing Kabale University with remarkable composure and skill, the KUMSA team featured:
- Okecho Stanley (Team Captain) – 5th Year
- Matovu Isaac – 5th Year
- Luleba Lawrence – 4th Year
- Tumusiime Boris – 4th Year
From the very start, the team showcased outstanding mastery across all categories of the tournament, which tested participants in clinical medicine, pre-clinical sciences, mathematics and logic and general knowledge.

During the grand finale held on 8th November 2025, Kabale University dominated all four rounds, securing a commanding 40 points and emerging overall continental champions, ahead of SUZA (Tanzania), who finished as 1st runners-up, and Lagos State University (Nigeria) as 2nd runners-up.
This victory, KUMSA’s third in a row, underscores Kabale University’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, practical medical training and mentorship-driven education. It highlights:
- The University’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence in medical and health sciences
- The depth of knowledge, critical thinking and teamwork demonstrated by its students
- The impact of consistent mentorship and institutional support in shaping high-achieving scholars
By achieving this milestone, Kabale University has amplified its visibility on the continental map and reaffirmed its role in advancing medical education through competitive excellence, collaboration and innovation.
The winning team expressed deep gratitude to the University Administration, the Dean of the School of Medicine, Prof. James K. Tumwine, the academic staff of Kabale University School of Medicine (KABSOM), and the entire student community for their encouragement and moral support throughout the competition.

They also extended appreciation to FAMSA and Lecturio International for creating a platform that continues to inspire and unite future African medical leaders through academic excellence and collaboration.
As they celebrate this historic milestone, KUMSA has recommended continued institutional support for academic competitions, the establishment of structured quiz preparation programs and sustained mentorship initiatives that will nurture future champions.
