Students from various faculties at Kabale University participated in an intensive week-long #Startup101BootCamp, aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and innovation among the university community.

Hosted from 5th to 9th February 2024, the boot camp provided participants with invaluable insights and skills to navigate the world of business. Organized by the Regional ICT Innovation Hub, the Startup101 Bootcamp at Kabale University was designed to equip participants with practical entrepreneurship skills, empower them to identify and pursue innovative ideas and take the first steps on their entrepreneurial journey.

Throughout the program, participants engaged in a range of activities tailored to develop their entrepreneurial perception.

On different days students were taken through Introduction to Entrepreneurship and case studies of successful entrepreneurs, Practical Business Challenge in the Field, Innovation & Design-Thinking Part I (Identify business opportunities), Innovation & Design-Thinking Part II (Refine ideas and test them in the field), Financials, Business Models & Pitching.

The event took place at the Faculty of Education in All Saints Hall, opposite Kikungiri Church of Uganda.

According to Kassozi Denis, a student doing a Bachelor of Information Technology program at Kabale University, the five-day training proved to be highly beneficial as he gained valuable insights and skills. He particularly highlights a standout experience during which his group was tasked with starting a business with an initial capital of 50,000/= Ugandan shillings and generating profits within 24 hours. Kassozi recalls with enthusiasm how he and his team met the challenge, reporting back on time with lucrative results. He goes on to explain that their team’s business concept comprised making Tea-Bites out of pre-made Chapatis, which proved both successful and exciting for all team members.

The objectives of the training included fostering an entrepreneurial identity among students, exposing them to principles of innovative ideas with market potential, and providing exposure to successful Ugandan innovators and entrepreneurs. Additionally, participants learned how to identify opportunities in their community through design thinking and practiced starting a business in a lean way.
