Kabale University First PhD Cohort Defends Research Proposals

3 Ph.D. candidates successfully defended their research proposals in a session chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Prof. Benon C. Basheka held at Kabale University at the new Conference Hall, Kikungiri Campus.

Benon Kyabarongo, Sylivia Tushabe and George Mugavu all candidates of the PhD in Business Administration made their presentations before a panel of 10 Professors and Doctors. The 3 are part of the 28 students in the first cohort admitted in 2020 after its accreditation in 2019.

The Dean, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, Associate Prof. Tamwesigire Caleb noted that as a young dynamic university which is growing at a fast rate, it is committed to being a center of excellence.

He said that there is capacity of over 100 Professors who have boasted the post-graduate department, making Kabale University one of the best universities in Uganda one can attain postgraduate training from.

Dr. Paul Ssemaluulu, a Senior Lecturer at Kabale University says that the University is committed to produce critical thinkers who can find solutions to the problems their societies are facing. “That is why we sent the students’ work to external supervisors to peer review and to ensure quality research.

Ass. Prof. Denis Sekiwu, Director Postgraduate Training says Doctoral education is very vital in a university. He noted that management was committed to promoting the University research agenda and support individual researchers.

The candidates said they appreciated the panelists’ comments and they were ready to complete their research on time. “Our faculty has provided us with experienced supervisors who have been available and willing to work with us”, said Mr. Benon Kyabarongo (PhD candidate).

Kabale University has senior academicians who have published, making the University visible and recently, being ranked third best in science research in Uganda.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Administration (by coursework and research) is designed to assist in the development of business and Management skills in Uganda and to improve on the quality of human resource for business and non-business in areas of management. There are 132 students who are currently enrolled for all PhD courses at Kabale University.
