Kabale University to Celebrate First-Ever PhD Graduates

Kabale University is set to make history by awarding its first-ever Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees during the upcoming graduation ceremony on Friday, October 25, 2024. This landmark event will be held at the university’s main campus, with 1,671 students graduating from various academic disciplines.

In a recent press briefing, Prof. Joy Kwesiga, the Vice-Chancellor of Kabale University, hailed the occasion as a significant milestone in the institution’s journey. She remarked, “Kabale University has come a long way.” The university, which initially offered only master’s programs during its time as a private institution, has now expanded its academic reach as a public university, including the introduction of PhD programs.

Prof. Kwesiga emphasized that this development has strengthened the university’s ability to attract esteemed academic professionals, thanks to the support of the Ugandan government. She expressed immense pride in the university’s growth into a premier hub of higher learning, now capable of producing graduates at the highest academic levels.

The university’s pioneer PhD graduates, Caroline Murezi and Dr. Paul Turyaheebwa, will receive their doctoral degrees in Business Administration—Murezi in Entrepreneurship and Turyaheebwa in Finance and Accounting. Both scholars are regarded as trailblazers, leading the way for Kabale University’s future academic excellence.

Caroline Murezi shared that her decision to pursue a PhD was motivated by the university’s transformation from a private to a public institution, which raised its academic standards. Paul Turyaheebwa, on the other hand, used the occasion to advocate for increased public awareness of tax regulations, encouraging the government to launch educational campaigns to help taxpayers better understand their rights and obligations.

As Kabale University prepares to celebrate this historic graduation, it looks ahead to continuing its upward trajectory, providing advanced academic opportunities and contributing to Uganda’s national development.
