IMG_2217The Anesthesia Class of 2026 at Kabale University marked the successful completion of their academic journey with a graduation dinner held on 18th June 2026 at the residence of Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba Makanga. The event brought together graduands, lecturers, continuing students, and university leaders to celebrate years of hard work, resilience, and achievement.

Speaking at the event, the Dean of Students, Mr. Amos Tukamushaba, congratulated the graduands upon reaching this important milestone and encouraged them to view graduation as the beginning of a new chapter rather than the end of their academic journey.

He urged the graduates to pursue further studies and remain focused on personal and professional growth.

“Success requires preparation, resilience, persistence, discipline, and focus on set goals,” he advised.IMG_1906

Mr. Tukamushaba encouraged the graduands to share the knowledge and skills acquired during their training and use them to address societal challenges. He emphasized the importance of empathy in healthcare, reminding them that patients should always remain at the center of their professional practice.

“Be empathetic, doctors. A patient is your focus and your client; therefore, they must always come first,” he said.

He also commended parents and guardians for their sacrifice, commitment, and unwavering support throughout the demanding and costly training process. He further challenged the graduands to serve as ambassadors of Kabale University wherever they go.

“Your success belongs not only to you but also to your parents, relatives, the university, and the wider community,” he remarked.

The Head of the Department of Anaesthesia, Dr. Isabella Epiu, applauded the graduands for their dedication and encouraged them to confidently apply their knowledge and skills in addressing healthcare challenges. Dr. Epiu urged the future healthcare professionals to broaden their knowledge beyond anesthesia, noting that awareness of developments in various fields enhances adaptability and competitiveness in an evolving world. She also emphasized the importance of prompt patient care, teamwork, and continuous professional development through workshops, conferences, and networking opportunities.

“You need to work as a team, discuss issues together, and create win-win solutions. Sharing ideas and skills produces better results in the field,” she said.

She further encouraged the graduands to maintain a healthy work-life balance, stressing the importance of creating time for family, personal well-being, and rest alongside professional responsibilities.

Dr. Sadic Kagwa Kakembo, Lecturer of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the School of Medicine, challenged the graduates to appreciate education as a foundation for earning a livelihood and contributing meaningfully to society. He noted that graduates may pursue diverse career paths in healthcare, academia, business, politics, agriculture, and other sectors.

“Wherever you go, you will need knowledge, skills, and human understanding,” he said.

The graduands expressed excitement and gratitude for successfully completing the program, describing the journey as both challenging and rewarding. They thanked the Department of Anesthesia and their lecturers, particularly Dr. Isabella Epiu, for their mentorship, guidance, and unwavering support throughout their studies.

The graduates also appealed to Kabale University to establish a Master’s program in Anesthesia to provide opportunities for advanced training and strengthen the profession within the region.IMG_1650
