Bridging Theory and Practice in Taxation: URA Officials Deliver Insightful Guest Lecture at Kabale University
April 17, 2026, Kabale University hosted an engaging and impactful guest lecture on Tax Administration and Compliance, delivered by officials from the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). Organized by the Department of Business Studies under the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, the session brought together second-year students pursuing the Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting) and the Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
The event formed part of the University’s ongoing commitment to bridging the gap between classroom theory and real world practice, while strengthening institutional collaboration with key industry stakeholders.
The session was attended by distinguished faculty members, including the Faculty Dean, Prof. Kaaya Siraje; the Head of Department, Prof. Sunday Arthur; the Program Coordinator, Mr. Jesse David Kabagambe; and Mr. Kambale Sowedi. The station head headed the URA delegation, Mr. Micheal Kwishima, who came along with Mr. Shephard Abakundayesu, Mr. Morris Okwir, and Miss Mwebaze Peninah.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Jesse David Kabagambe welcomed both students and guests, expressing appreciation to the URA team for their continued support. Prof. Sunday Arthur commended the collaborative effort behind the engagement, while Prof. Kaaya Siraje applauded the strong student turnout and emphasized the importance of such partnerships in shaping competent professionals. He encouraged students to utilize these opportunities to build networks for internships and future employment.
The lecture covered key areas of taxation, including tax administration and compliance in Uganda, filing of tax returns and taxpayer obligations, as well as current tax reforms and policy developments. The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging URA officials through a dynamic question and answer segment, addressing practical concerns related to tax procedures, registration, compliance, and digital systems.
This engagement emphasizes Kabale University’s dedication to producing industry ready graduates equipped with practical knowledge and professional skills, while fostering strategic partnerships that enhance academic excellence and contribute to national development.
