KAB and MAK explore ways of working together on Research

Kabale University today hosted a team from the Makerere University Research Innovations Fund. The team shall be at KAB for a week to meet with different stakeholders. They shall engage and assess possible avenues of collaboration for research and innovations. In the opening meeting where they met with members of the University Management, Heads of Faculties, Directorates, and institutes, they expressed optimism about the growth of research at KAB.

The Team was led by Dr. Zahara Nampewo and Professor Robert Wamala shared their experience as the Makerere University Research Fund. Key to note was the ability to use government-granted research funds appropriately to expand the university’s publication abilities. The Director for Research and Publication, Prof Natal Ayiga was thankful for the team and appealed to them to maintain an open working relationship that will see KAB’s research promoted to another level.

In his remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs Prof. Benon Basheka pointed out the strategic location of KAB as a unique research hub. The University’s geographic location places it in an environment of great research potential given the multi-ethnic wealth in the neighboring countries of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania.  He emphasized that research funding and collaboration should target harnessing the individual capacity and institutional capacity of KAB.

The team held an in-depth discussion to familiarize themselves with KAB’s research readiness. Among others, they discussed procedures of managing research grants, research dissemination, community engagement, and key challenges of the region.

In his concluding remarks, the DVC AA thanked the team and wished them a warm stay at KAB, he emphasized the unique features of KAB and its research road map.
