KAB senior management, cost center managers & heads of units asked to embrace internal audit in all University activities

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joy Kwesiga has called on  members of Management, Cost Center Managers & heads of units at KAB to embrace internal audit services in all activities of the university to work of the university to give quality services and also keep adhering to the regulations.

Speaking at the opening of a one-day Risk Identification Training workshop held in the University Boardroom this morning, Prof. Kwesiga noted that the audit unit is mandated to audit all university activities so they remain in line with the University and other Tertiary Institutions Act.

The University Secretary, Canon Johnson Baryantuma Munono cautioned members to ensure proper accountability. “All of us are employed by the government  of Uganda and so we must be accountable for the funds advanced to us and also be accountable to the students we should teach”, he noted. Canon Munono advised the members to help in identifying the risks that could be harmful to the reputation of the university so that they can manage them beforehand.

The Assistant Director Internal Audit, Mr. Benson Barigye that the workshop was aimed at establishing whether internal controls were in place and if they were working effectively. “We intend to rate the magnitude of the risks we shall identify and their effect on our University. This will guide us on checking the effectiveness of risk management strategies available to mitigate them”, he added.

The Training workshop was organized by the Directorate of Internal Audit to guide members on Identifying risks and train on possible risk management measures to protect the physical, human resources and financial assets of the university while reducing exposure to risk.  The Internal Audit has the responsibility of ascertaining whether the policies of the University are being used rightly and also managing risk issues.

Key objectives of the Internal Audit are to eestablish the areas of risk within the University, check whether the University’s regulations and procedures together with the relevant laws are being followed
