African Universities Must Be Self Reliant – Prof. Joy C Kwesiga
Prof Joy Constance Kwesiga, the Kabale University Vice Chancellor has called on universities in Africa to start developing their own potential in research and stop depending on foreign universities. Prof Kwesiga made the call on Tuesday at the launch of the Interdisciplinary Research Journal, which is hoped to create an international image for Kabale University through producing researched articles.
At the same event, Prof. Kwesiga also launched yogurt, ice cream and sausage products made by the university’s Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Kwesiga said the new journal will be a sustainable venture and will help the public understand how the University works.
Prof Siraje Kaaya, the Coordinator of Higher Degrees, Research and Publications at Kabale University and the journal Editor in Chief, said he initiated the project after realizing a big gap in disseminating researched information and innovations within the University. He added that the journal will provide a medium for intellectual exchange and interactions amongst scholars, which he hopes will affect the positive rankings of the University.
He added that the journal will be published on a quarterly basis both online and in print, with high-quality original research articles, letters and commentaries, on a wide range of disciplines like education, social sciences, agriculture, environmental science, medicine, engineering and among others.
Meanwhile, the VC Prof. Kwesiga asked each faculty at Kabale University to have an income-generating project to equip students with practical skills.
