The Department of Library and Information Science receives new HoD
The Deputy Academic Registrar, Can. Benon Freddie Kwikiriza has implored the incoming HoD Library and Information Science, Dr. George William Kiyingi to strive to promote effective teaching, examining, and assessing of students on time for the growth of Kabale University.
Speaking at the handover ceremony of Mr. Benjamin Ahimbisibwe, Can. Kwikiriza appreciated Mr. Ahimbisibwe for making the department a model in reporting, teaching, and marking on time.
Can. Kwikiriiza implored the staff to team up with Dr. Kiyingi to ensure continuity in the department. “The staff in this department have been hardworking and have quality teamwork”, he noted.
Mr. Ahimbisiibwe appreciated the members of his department for having worked with him. He noted that he had involved his staff in all the day-to-day running of the department and each of them had contributed to the growth of the department.
He tasked the Incoming HoD to strengthen internal staff development. He requested Dr. Kiyingi to remember that he had been chosen to serve by God. He asked him to be dedicated to serving and assured him that they (the staff) would team up with him to grow the department.
The Dean, Faculty of Computing, Library and Information Science, Assoc. Prof. Phelix Businge commended Mr. Ahimbisiibwe for being a good representative of the department at the Senate, Examinations committee, and also the faculty Safety committee. He also implored Dr. Kiyingi to be accommodating and work together with his staff and faculty members for success and growth.
Dr. Kiyingi, the incoming HoD requested the staff members to work together in order to collectively achieve the mandate of the department, faculty, and university as well. He also reminded the staff members that they were individually accountable for what they are assigned to do. “You are supposed to teach, supervise research, and do community outreach as individuals but collectively, we must grow this department”, he added. He told members that he was looking forward to a collegial working relationship.
