Kabale University concludes orientation of the University Council with signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Uganda Industrial Research Institute(UIRI)

In order to increase the capacity of the University Council to discharge its oversight role, Management of the University organised a University Council Retreat on the 28th of September 2020. This was held at the New Uganda Industrial Research Institute training facility in Namanve Industrial park, Kampala.

Kabale University having inaugurated its second University Council as a Public University in March 2020, it was found necessary for the new council members to be oriented to enable them effectively perform their oversight management role. During the retreat, different topics were covered including ;

  • The University legal framework, stakeholders, University Council Structures, functions and oversight roles,
  • Challenges of the University Council and Council effectiveness,
  • University financing, resource mobilization, and research productivity.

The Facilitators included Prof. Asibo Opuda, Prof. F.I.B Kayanja, Prof. Noble Banadda, and Prof. Charles Kwesiga.

The retreat concluded with the two Institutions (Uganda Industrial Research Institute and Kabale University ) entering into a partnership whereby;
The two Institutions will be supporting each other in services offered by Kabale University Faculty of Engineering, Technology, Applied Design, and Fine Art, the partnership will also foster friendly cooperation in areas of student internships, workshops, seminars for both staff and students, development of academic programs which support each parties mission and core values, among many others.

A memorandum of understanding was signed by representatives from the two institutions, Kabale University was represented by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joy C. Kwesiga and Mr. Baryantuma Johnson Munono, the University Secretary, whereas Uganda Industrial Research Institute was represented by Prof.Charles Kwesiga the Executive Director, and Dr. Dick Kamugasha the Deputy Director.

We congratulate the two Institutions upon attaining this great achievement.
