Kabale University Hosts Official Handover of Huawei ICT Equipment, Eyes Deeper Partnership

Kabale, Uganda – 5th August 2025 — Kabale University today hosted the official handover ceremony of ICT equipment donated by Huawei Technologies Uganda, marking a significant milestone in the university’s ongoing digital transformation journey.

The equipment, initially delivered on 26th April 2025, was subject to a preliminary evaluation by Huawei to ensure its effective utilization—underscoring the company’s commitment to impactful and sustainable partnerships in higher education.

During the event, Huawei’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ronnie Arinda, congratulated three Kabale University students, Wakooli Viola Ritah, Nassanga Racheal Marion, and Nakabuuka Regina Desire, Bachelor of Computer Science students who recently traveled to China after excelling in the Huawei Global ICT Competition. Their achievement is a testament to the university’s growing strength in ICT training and innovation.

Huawei, a global leader in ICT infrastructure and smart devices, continues to invest in talent development through its flagship initiatives including the Huawei ICT Academy, the National ICT Competition, and the DigiTruck Project, a mobile digital classroom currently touring Uganda to deliver digital skills to schools and institutions. Kabale University is among the institutions earmarked for future outreach.

In his remarks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Johnny Mugisha, alongside the Kabale University Management team, expressed deep appreciation to Huawei for its generous support. He also proposed several areas for further collaboration, including improved campus internet connectivity, the equipping of engineering workshops, the establishment of a student laptop scheme, and the digitization of administrative systems such as staff and student attendance tracking.

Mr. Arinda encouraged the university to explore potential partnerships with the MTN Foundation and Uganda Communications Commission, which run established laptop donation schemes for students. He also noted that Huawei is conducting ICT job fairs at universities across the country, providing direct employment opportunities for high-performing students, with Kabale University scheduled to be among the upcoming beneficiaries.

The university further expressed interest in establishing a Huawei ICT Training Academy on campus and pledged active participation in the next Huawei Global ICT Competition.

Kabale University remains committed to fostering innovation and building strategic partnerships that enhance academic excellence, research, and employability in the digital era.
