Kabale University Welcomes 8 Nigerian Technical Aid Corps Experts to Strengthen Teaching, Research and International Collaboration

Kabale University today, July 30, 2026, has officially welcomed eight highly qualified academic experts from the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) Program, marking the arrival of the University’s sixth TAC cohort and reaffirming its commitment to international academic collaboration and capacity building. The team, comprising senior academics all holding PhD qualifications, will serve at Kabale University for two years. The experts have been deployed across four academic units: the Kabale University School of Medicine (KABSOM), the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and the Faculty of Science. The volunteers were received during an orientation meeting chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, Associate Professor Helen Musanabera Byamugisha, who welcomed the delegation and applauded the continued partnership between Kabale University and the Government of Nigeria through the Technical Aid Corps Program. In her remarks, Associate Professor Hellen Byamugisha commended the outstanding contribution of the previous five TAC cohorts to the University’s academic growth and encouraged the new team to build upon that legacy through excellence in teaching, research, mentorship, and community engagement. “We have greatly benefited from the expertise and professionalism of the previous TAC volunteers. We are confident that this sixth cohort will continue that tradition and make a lasting contribution to the University’s mission,” she said.

The University Secretary, Mr. Baryantuma Johnson Munono, assured the volunteers of the University’s commitment to providing a conducive working and living environment throughout their stay. ” Be vocal on anything so that we create a good environment for you to teach,” he advised, while encouraging the team to uphold professionalism, respect the University’s values, and integrate into the wider Kabale community. He further reaffirmed the University’s commitment to their safety, welfare, and overall well-being.

Representing the student community, the Dean of Students, Mr. Tukamushaba Amos, warmly welcomed the volunteers and assured them of the students’ readiness to learn from their expertise. “Our students are welcoming, and you can be assured of being accommodated,” he said, urging the team to mentor students patiently, particularly in language development, while nurturing discipline and academic excellence. During the orientation, several University officials briefed the delegation on key institutional systems and support services.

The University Librarian, Dr. Bernard Bazirake Bamuhiiga, pledged full support in facilitating access to library resources and research materials to enhance their teaching and scholarly work.

The Chief Human Resource Management Officer, Mr. Samson Olum, informed the volunteers that each member would have an individual personnel file and be integrated into the University’s performance management system. He explained that maintaining comprehensive employment records would also facilitate future opportunities should any member wish to pursue permanent employment at Kabale University.

The Deputy Academic Registrar, Dr. Monicah Rulonga Kanyesigye, guided the team through the University’s e-learning platform, student registration procedures, workload allocation, and academic support systems available to facilitate their teaching responsibilities.

The Senior Legal Officer, Mrs. Judith Ahimbisibwe, introduced the volunteers to the University’s legal and policy framework, including the Human Resource Manual, while commending previous TAC cohorts for their exemplary professionalism and compliance with university regulations. Heads of Departments where the volunteers will be stationed also outlined departmental expectations and areas of collaboration aimed at maximizing the impact of the program.

The Principal Communications, Marketing and Branding Officer, Mr. Sempungu Godfrey, encouraged the TAC team to work closely with the Department of Communications, Marketing and Branding to showcase their academic achievements, research activities, innovations, and community engagement initiatives through the University’s communication platforms. He also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in renewable energy initiatives and other strategic areas where the volunteers’ expertise could contribute to institutional development.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the TAC Team Leader expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to the volunteers by the University and the people of Kabale. “We are happy to be part of the University and the community. We promise to make a mark and add value to Kabale University,” the team leader said, adding that the volunteers are committed to contributing to teaching, research, scholarly publications, mentorship, and community outreach throughout their two-year assignment. The arrival of the sixth TAC cohort follows the official send-off ceremony held in Nigeria on 13 July 2026 and reflects the continued success of the Technical Aid Corps Program, an initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria that deploys skilled professionals to support education, healthcare, agriculture, engineering and other priority areas. As Kabale University continues to strengthen its international partnerships, the Technical Aid Corps Program remains a significant pillar in enhancing academic excellence, knowledge exchange, research collaboration, and institutional capacity, further advancing the University’s vision of becoming a globally competitive center of academic and research excellence.
