NSSF delegation engages Kabale University leadership in strengthening institutional ties

A delegation from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) offices in Kampala and Kabale today paid a courtesy visit to the administration of Kabale University. The team was led by Mr. Kwarakunde Arthur, the Acting Area Manager of NSSF Kabale, and was received by Professor Johnny Mugisha, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, along with the University Bursar. During the meeting, the NSSF team commended Kabale University for being the largest and most consistent NSSF contributor in the Kigezi region.

In the course of discussions, Professor Mugisha stimulated NSSF to enhance its presence on campus by sponsoring the construction of a building or teaching facility. In response, the NSSF team presented the Hi-Innovator program, a nationwide initiative designed to support entrepreneurs who employ at least one person. This program offers training on business management and is open to individuals with innovative ideas and projects. The Hi-Innovator program aims to strengthen access to and sustainably grow productive employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people in Uganda.

Additionally, it was noted that a significant number of university staff members are no longer contributing to NSSF. To address this, the NSSF team introduced the Smart Life product, which allows staff members above the age of 55 to continue saving and earning daily interest. These savings can be withdrawn at any time as needed. The NSSF team proposed returning at the beginning of the semester to engage with a larger number of staff members. Furthermore, the Deputy Vice Chancellor suggested that the NSSF team conduct training sessions during the KAB SACCO meetings to educate staff on various financial programs and financial literacy.

Professor Mugisha expressed his appreciation for NSSF’s efficient practices, specifically highlighting the organization’s promptness in processing payments—a significant improvement from previous operations.

The courtesy visit by the NSSF delegation to Kabale University laid the groundwork for potential collaborations aimed at enhancing staff financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills. The introduction of initiatives like the Hi-Innovator program and Smart Life product emphasizes NSSF’s commitment to supporting different communities in Uganda. This left both parties in anticipation for future engagements to further these objectives, reflecting a shared dedication to the welfare and development of Kabale University’s staff.
