Kabale University and Lund University Strengthen Collaboration Through RESPECT Project Meeting
The Advisory Committee of the RESPECT Project (Responsible Critical Thinking) convened on 20th March 2025 at White Horse Inn, Kabale, bringing together distinguished academics and stakeholders to assess the project’s progress and future direction.
The meeting was graced by Dr. Alex Kagume, Deputy Executive Director of the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), and Prof. Johnny Mugisha, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Kabale University. Also in attendance were key project stakeholders, including Prof. Eva Brodin from Lund University (LU), Sweden, the Overall Project Leader, and Prof. Mesharch Katusiimeh from Kabale University, the Local Project Leader/Coordinator.
The RESPECT Project is a collaborative initiative between Lund University and Kabale University, funded by the Swedish Institute under its Creative Partnerships Programme (2024–2026). The project aims to foster responsible critical thinking in higher education through innovative academic programs and research collaborations.
During the meeting, Prof. Eva Brodin provided an in-depth overview of the project, outlining its key objectives and progress. She highlighted the commencement of training activities and the identification of PhD and Master’s students for sponsorship under the project. Prof. Mesharch Katusiimeh further elaborated on proposed academic initiatives, including a future Master’s program in Human Rights and a short course targeting marginalized communities.
In their closing remarks, Dr. Alex Kagume and Prof. Johnny Mugisha emphasized the importance of quality research and increased institutional collaboration. They reaffirmed the significance of the RESPECT Project in enhancing responsible critical thinking and advancing human rights education in higher education institutions.
The meeting underscored the commitment of both institutions to academic excellence and international collaboration, further strengthening the partnership between Kabale University and Lund University.
