Kabale University ICT Innovation Hub Boot Camp Commences, Focused on Empowering School Leavers in Computing and Records Management
The Faculty of Computing, Library and Information Sciences Regional ICT Innovation Hub boot camp was launched today at Kikungiri Campus.
According to Prof Phelix Businge, Dean Faculty of Computing, the boot camp is intended to provide P.7, O’Level, and A’Level leavers with hands-on computing and records management skills.
He encouraged the students to be patient and to focus more on what they would be taught during this boot camp training, highlighting areas where they needed to be more focused such as time management, listening skills, and mastering the art of reading and writing skills.
He also stated that the faculty intends to organize more trainings for various target groups in the future.
The boot camp learning schedule has been carefully crafted to include practical workshops, interactive sessions, and mentorship programs tailored to the needs of participants i.e. Basics and Practical sessions of Power Point, Emerging Trends in provision of Libraries in Society among others.
Through these activities, the aim is to empower the attendees with the skills required to navigate the evolving landscape of information and communication technology.
In her address at the ceremony, Mrs. Anny Katabaazi-Bwengye the Deputy VC Finance and Administration emphasized the importance of fostering practical skills development from an early stage.
“We recognize the pivotal role of hands-on experience in shaping the future of our students. The world needs people who can get up and grab opportunities.”
Some of the core objectives of the boot camps include teaching student’s computer maintenance and how to communicate via the internet.
25 Vacists had registered their attendance by the end of the first session.
Kabale University is one of the Ugandan universities hosting a regional innovation hub.
The Regional ICT Innovation Hub boot camp is a five-day training organized by the University’s Faculty of Computing, Library, and Information Sciences to give back to the community in collaboration with the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.
