The Informer: MoE appoints Kakuru & Prof. Augustus as gov’t representatives on Kabale University Council

The Ministry of Education and Sports has appointed Hon Adson Kakuru and Prof Augustus Niwagaba, as government representatives at Kabale University Council.

Hon Kakuru is a senior politician and former Senior Presidential Advisor In-charge of Wetlands Restoration, while Prof Niwagaba is a team leader of the international project for Economic management in sub-Saharan Africa among other positions.

The Kabale University Secretary Canon Johnson Baryantuma Munono who is also the head of laity in Diocese of kigezi told journalists that the University and other tertiary institutions ACT, 2001, indicates that every council of a Public University must have three government representatives appointed by the Ministry of Education and sports.

He therefore said that two of the three positions at Kabale University fell vacant after the death of the Chairperson of the University Council Hon Ephraim Manzi Tumubweine who died after renewing his contract for other four years and Emeritus Prof James Tumwine who resigned after being appointed as a lecturer in charge of pediatric at Kabale University school of Medicine.

The two were representing the government together with the current Acting University Council Chairperson Dr Elizabeth Madraa.

Canon Munono noted that the University has also written to Kabale district local government to appoint the representative of the district in the University Council, following the contract expiry of the former Kabale District LC5 Chairperson the late Patrick Besigye Keihwa, whose contract expired before his death.

He added that the University Council members are yet to elect their substantive Chairperson to replace the late Tumubweine.

Being one of the founding members of Kabale University, Hon.Kakuru served as the Chair of the District Education committee. He also expressed his optimism about the growth of Kabale University.

Prof. Nuwagaba expressed his dream of seeing the Kabale University Council steering the University towards hands-on training, something that is greatly needed by todays’ university graduates.

He sounded his expectation of seeing practical knowledge being built at Kabale for the national policy-making and social transformation of the graduates.
