Literature Students Celebrate International Mother Language Day

Kabale University second-year literature students celebrated International Mother Language Day on the 21st of February in their own style. They gathered to listen to poetry in Rukiga written by Racheal Atuheire and recited by Olivah Atukunda. The thirty minutes celebration took place at the main campus of Kabale University on Kikungiri hill, outside Sarah Ntiro block.

International Mother Language Day is celebrated worldwide. For the second-year Literature students, led by their lecturer, Prof. Egara kabaji, it was a time to celebrate through poetry and dance. The theme for this year’s Mother Language Day is “Using technology for multilingual learning; challenges and opportunities.”

According to Barnabas Akimanzi, the class coordinator,” it was a good experience to celebrate our language, “ It was his view that we set aside time every year to celebrate mother language day.
